Tips for Keeping the Kids from Getting Cranky While Road Tripping
Are you planning on a big family road trip this summer in your new Kia? Family road trips can be fun, but it can become physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting – especially if you are traveling with young kids. Here are some tips to help keep your kids from getting cranky and to protect your sanity.
Tip #1: Invest in a Kia Vehicle with Three Rows of Seats
If you are shopping for a new Kia before your road trip, we recommend going with a model that comes with three rows of seats like the Telluride, Sorento, or Sedona. Even if you only have two kids, that extra row of seats can do wonders when you need to separate them to put an end to the backseat bickering.
Tip #2: Make Sure Your Kids are Well Rested Before Hitting the Road
Very rarely will kids actually sleep while on the road – and they will be CRANKY if they do not have the proper amount of rest. Make sure that they get enough sleep at home or in the hotel rooms.
Tip #3: Pack Plenty of Healthy Snacks
Besides “are we there, yet?”, the most annoying phrase we hear from our kids during road trips is “I’m hungry” every 10 minutes. Before hitting the road, pack lots of kid-friendly yet healthy snacks to keep them full. Our favorite snacks are baby carrots, banana chips, Cheerios, and string cheese.
Tip #4: Offer a Few Entertainment Options
Before leaving, pack your kids’ favorite books so they can look at them or read them while on the road. While we encourage limited screen time for kids, a long road trip is a good exception and either download a few movies onto your tablet or bring along a portable DVD player with a few movies. You can also sync up your phone to the UVO infotainment system in your Kia so you can listen to music. And don’t limit yourself to the Frozen soundtrack! Classical and jazz are great genres that help the kids stay calm.
